Before I was about to join my college, there was a deep confusion going on due to the fact that MIT’s placements were too poor 4-5 years back. While joining people used to say me “Why u going there, placements don’t exceed 20% any year”. At that time I didn’t have any other option, so joined the college.

Now looking back at the history I feel, that it was so apt that I didn’t listen to people, hundreds of people will give you advises, many of them advantageous and many not, its upto you which you wan to listen and which disapprove. The placements at our college is soaring new heights, many many major companies are scheduled to arrive when college reopens including Deloitte, Yahoo, Cisco, EMC2, Microsoft, Honeywell etc etc.

So far TCS, Infosys, Accenture and Wipro have made their visit to college. TCS took a whooping 322 students on2nd of May and rest three came on 2-3rd of June. Students in my college are a bunch of lucky lots, companies and companies, if such trend continues who knows there will be hardly students left for companies which arrive later. Will students get more than 3 jobs this time keeping in mind that more companies are coming this time.

Before summing up the placement situation, I would like to tell the readers that placements is a trivial thing provided you have one job in hand. College is not just placements or marks or grades. I have seen people saying that “I wont go to that college because it has only 95% placement”. Isn’t this statement too much? Try to come in the 95%, this statement implies lack of confidence. Participate in extra-curricular activities, sports and all non-academic events too. GPA’s and CGPA’s are trivial things, they loose importance after you pass out of college.

Most people have the thinking that Manipal is a place for fun, adventure and no serious work! Well, some of my friends in other colleges have this thinking. To clear these myths I would like to mention that there are lots of technical clubs active at Manipal and around.

Last sem MIT got a new organisation. Its not a Club, its a Users Group. Both differ vastly, they have different setup of members, no board members, no chairman, only voulenteers. They only have a coordinator whose post is currently held by the faculty advisor, Prof Aithal of Computer Science Department, MIT. This the most active organization presently out there at MIT. Meeting or workshops are held every week, discussions and presentations. An excellent platform for showcasing your talent. Now it has its own site, wikis etc. Check out its site here

Guess! What lacked a lot in MIT when it comes to environment? I can say it was dustbins, whenever I walked down the campus with a wrapper or something with me, had to throw it at the corner. To clean up the mess only a few bins were provided in front of boys hostel, that too we of very small size which could hardly be used. I remember lots of time when throwing wrappers or polybags on roadside was the only option.

Coming to this new semester, when we can notice is the vast availability of dustbins at every 100m or less. This time these bins are of a large size and really look like *DUSTBINS* unlike the former. MIT is paying a lot of attention at the environment I guess. Some of its plans are quite difficult to implement, like “No Polybags” campaign. Unless people and shopkeepers collectively reach to a consensus, containing this environment hazard is quite a tough job. College is also spending a lot of money in developing gardens and greenery. Finally just placing dustbins at regular intervals is not adequate unless we people learn something called “Civic Sense”

When I entered the college campus for the first time, I had great expectations both from myself and the college. The point that those expectations are met or shattered is now completely irrelevant. To me the lifestyle and culture of this college carries more weight. Some of the places in I wont forget are KC, Campus Stores, Venugopal Temple, 9th Block JC and Timmy Anna’s Night Canteen within MIT Campus. Outside the campus obviously the first place is End Point, then TC, Dollops, LC and DT.

Its said that in engineering colleges among guys, that the opposite sex are an endangered species. Yeah! Its true for Engineering colleges in India except MIT. This place looks more like a Medical College when gals/guys ratio are taken into consideration. So obviously the MITians are not behind in harnessing this advantage to the maximum extent. You could easily spot couples and lovebirds trying to find some place in this campus just to have some private time (in some case private actions too ;) ). Well you could join this club without any entry fees, just need to put up a tough fight and strive hard to achieve your aim. Damn! I could get a 10 point even if I toil one-tenth of the struggles faced in making a girlfriend. Am too lazy in this field.

How can I forget that Dollops, Saiba, CCD and DT for their food where we use to hang out with friends, asking party for even the trivial matters. “You got a 20 in a sessionals, so now we deserve a treat”. Poor Man! Is scoring excellently an offense? We make full efforts to make the river flow in the opposite direction. :)

Can you forget those Ozone, Edge and disc where we went mad whenever we found a chance? It was the place to rejoice, merry, come together to make sure that we utilize fully each and every second of our engineering. I have made a proper collection and archived it to make it not just an *ALBUM* but a *MEMORY OF LIFE*. The Memories of my Life!

I may not say much at the world class faculty in my department or the college. Whatsoever may be the case, the quality of the faculty wont be written on our degrees. So my advice is just complete your education without giving a damn to these things. We can still can it “World class teaching environment”. Surely we have a new modern and technologically advanced “New Lecture Halls”. Dont forget it. Have a watch on the Innovation Center, it was meant to be a research destination for industries (had heard and the name suggests that too), but I dont see a single such company except the ICAS students who have been given the privilege to have their classes at that place.

Remember KC? We did everything over there except “NO SQUATTING”! It is the heart of MIT, the most lively place, the basket ball ground, the shops and most important the chicks too come there to have some time. What else do guys want? Maybe a few gals come there because they know guys throng that place. ;)

Well! The list is non ending. This sem I hope to get placed in a respected company. Though only mass recruiters may turn up this time, branch specific companies will arrive in the 7th sem. Quite a long time. Yeah! It is….
